Another $10 million: why investment funds keep putting money into triathlon

Another $10 million: why investment funds keep putting money into triathlon

In March 2025 Cordillera Investment Partners invested $10 million in PTO.

Cordillera said it looks for niche businesses that can be overlooked by larger institutional investors and saw PTO as an emerging sports property with growth potential.

A later funding round was led by SURJ Sports Investment and Michael Moritz, with Verance Capital and Cordillera also participating.

What were they really buying? Not bikes or swimming pools. They were buying a stake in the possibility that professional and mass-participation triathlon could become a larger global sports property.

PTO pointed to signs of scale, including around 7,000 amateur participants across formats at Singapore T100 in April 2025.

In simple terms: more races, participants, viewers and sponsors can make the project more valuable. Investors take the risk today in the hope that growth follows tomorrow.
