PTO buys a majority stake in Challenge Family: triathlon enters a new phase

In February 2026 PTO made a different kind of move. Until then it had built its own products and signed partnerships. Now it bought.

PTO acquired from Y11 Sport & Media a majority stake in Challenge Family, whose 2026 calendar contained more than 35 events.

Why buy an existing network instead of creating 30 new races? Because Challenge Family brings assets that take years to build: local organisers, destinations, established events, participants and an international brand.

The deal allows part of that ecosystem to feed into the future Challenger level of the Triathlon World Tour.

A key nuance: buying Challenge Family does not automatically mean buying every race that uses or has used the Challenge brand. Some organisers and legal entities are independent; Challenge Roth publicly stressed its independence after the announcement.

In simple terms: PTO moved from growing race by race to adding an existing international network in one transaction.
