While much of Spain begins to close its sea-swimming season, the Canary Islands continue to offer conditions for open-water racing. On 10 October, El Porís de Abona hosts the 24th Blue Arico swim.
The main race covers 1,350 metres between El Porís and Punta de Abona, with participation capped at 350 swimmers. Kids events and a disability category are also included.
A different season in the Canary Islands
October racing highlights one of the archipelago’s sporting advantages: sea swimming and training can continue through much of the year, making the islands relevant not only for races but also for autumn and winter training.
