After years of investment, partnerships and acquisitions, the question is inevitable: who controls triathlon now?
The answer is not one company.
World Triathlon remains the international federation and retains sports-governance functions. PTO is an organisation backed by athletes and private investors that develops the commercial side of the project alongside the federation.
In 2027 the new map will become much more visible, with T50 and T100 at the top and Challenger events feeding into those levels.
Private investment brings resources triathlon has historically struggled to generate at scale: broadcast production, global marketing, prize money and expansion capacity. The federation brings rules, official titles and international structure.
The big question is no longer only how much money has entered PTO. It is what triathlon will look like when that capital, the acquired race network and the new global architecture are operating together.
