A doctor by training, investor and age-group triathlete, Binebine combines a long-distance racing history with a role in funding and governing the PTO.

Elkhalil Binebine’s name appears alongside the PTO, but his relationship with triathlon also involves wearing a race number. He has competed in Ironman, Challenge and T100 events while sitting on the board of an organisation seeking to expand professional triathlon’s reach. Understanding his place in the sport means looking at both paths.

From medicine to investment

His Vickers Venture Partners biography lists studies in Bordeaux and a medical degree from La Sorbonne. Before entering finance he practised in New York and served as Malcolm Forbes’ personal physician, a relationship the biography credits with helping him build investment experience and contacts.

He joined Vickers in 2005 and was an executive member of its investment committee until 2018. The firm now lists him as a senior consultant. That career provides his business background, while his involvement in triathlon includes a sporting story of his own.

Starting after 55

On his personal website, Binebine dates the beginning of his Ironman journey to 2016, following more than twenty-five years of competitive tennis. He was over 55 and preparing for disciplines he had not previously practised as a triathlete.

His early races took him to London and a middle-distance event in Vichy. In October that year he completed his first Ironman in Barcelona. His published personal race history records a finish of 12:51:25.

He subsequently built up appearances across different series and venues. His biography records Kona starts in 2019, 2022 and 2024, while his results page lists several Spanish and European events familiar to long-distance triathlon followers.

Lanzarote, Roth and Norseman alongside Kona

Among the races listed in his own published history are:

  • Ironman Lanzarote: 2022, 2023 and 2025.
  • Challenge Roth: 2023 and 2025.
  • Norseman: 2025.
  • London T100: 2024 and 2025.

These are age-group appearances, a different sporting path from the professional racing he helps support through the PTO. His experience spans several triathlon brands rather than being confined to the series in which he invests.

Canary Islands connections and links with elite training

In his 2024 profile for Triathlon Magazine, journalist Kevin Mackinnon reported that Binebine had bought a home in Gran Canaria and spent part of that period playing tennis and beach volleyball. The island connection predates his Ironman Lanzarote appearances.

The feature also describes his training environment: Terry Martin helped him at the start, and Dan Plews was coaching him when the interview was published. Mackinnon additionally noted links between his Moroccan residence and training camps involving Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden.

His place in triathlon today

The PTO identifies him as an investor and board member. After the Ekoï French Riviera T100, Binebine advocated the appeal of bringing professionals and amateurs together over the same weekend, an experience he also knows as a participant.

His connection with the sport’s institutional environment is public too. Antonio Fernández Arimany explained that a World Triathlon internal meeting in Marrakech, during preparations for the 2027 cycle, took place at his residence.

Binebine therefore combines three roles within one sport: amateur competitor, capital provider and PTO board member. Together they explain his place in triathlon beyond any single comment about T100.
