IRONMAN Lanzarote enters a new era as The IRONMAN Group takes over from Club La Santa

IRONMAN Lanzarote is entering a new era. From 2027, The IRONMAN Group will directly organise one of Europe’s historic long-distance races, taking over after 34 editions led by Club La Santa.

The change does not mean IRONMAN is arriving in Lanzarote: the brand has been part of the island’s sporting history since 1992. What changes is the organisational structure. After more than three decades in which Club La Santa built and developed the race, the owner of the IRONMAN brand will take direct control.

The 35th edition is scheduled for 15 May 2027.

Thirty-four editions of history

IRONMAN Lanzarote is closely linked to Club La Santa. The race grew into an international reference known for wind, climbing, volcanic scenery and a distinctive local identity.

The 2026 athlete guide already described that edition as the last organised by Club La Santa after 34 years, closing one of the longest-running organisational chapters in European endurance sport.

From local organiser to direct brand management

The change raises an interesting question for the sector: what happens when a race built for decades by a local structure becomes directly managed by the owner of a global brand?

The IRONMAN Group brings international marketing, registration, communications and event-management resources. The challenge will be to combine that global capacity with the elements that have made Lanzarote different: the territory, the course, volunteers, institutions and a triathlon culture built over decades.

Lanzarote within IRONMAN Spain

The Canary Islands race joins a Spanish IRONMAN portfolio that also includes full-distance events such as IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz and IRONMAN Barcelona-Calella, together with 70.3 races including Valencia and Alcúdia-Mallorca.

Lanzarote, however, has a unique place on that map. It is not a recent addition but one of the races that helped shape IRONMAN history in Europe.

A race that also built a destination

For decades athletes have travelled to Lanzarote not only to race but also to train and recon the course. That relationship between event, climate and territory has helped position the island as an international training destination.
