The Challenge story in the Canary Islands did not begin in Gran Canaria. For years, Challenge Fuerteventura was one of the archipelago’s international fixtures and attracted top-level specialists as well as athletes from other sporting backgrounds.
One of the best remembered episodes was Jenson Button’s participation in 2014. That period helped consolidate the relationship between the Canary Islands, middle-distance triathlon and Challenge Family, a story that later continued in Gran Canaria.
